Benimar is an urbanization in Benijófar ! The location of this property is in a prime location in respect of ease of access to all amenities. This small village borders to Rojales and with its 4.4 km2 is immediately also one of the smallest villages in the region. Its name in Arabic, yauhar, means 'son of a pearl' and refers possibly to the Arab family name Yauhar or to an orographical relief in the form of a pearl. The destiny of this village has been linked irrevocable to the river Segura to which is not only its wealth to blame, but adversity also its misery. The flood destroyed the village and killed its inhabitants. Today water in the river is controlled and has become an important tool for Benijofar. The main activity of this village is agriculture and the emphasis lies on growing vegetables and fruit which the markets in all cities and villages of the province Alicante supply daily.
Benijofar is part of the town of Rojales - Rojales is a typical agriculture village as a result of which the river Segura flows. To optimise production, farmers have themselves specialized in citrus fruits, which represent 70% of the total agriculture ground taken. The immediacy of the coast has ensured that more and more people are working in the service sector. This phenomenon further resulted in a lot of new constructions of new urbanisations in and around Rojales attracting more and more foreign capital. This new wealth has also lead to the construction of a new municipal sport hall and a theatre. |
