The Farm of Garth is a 54 hectare stock farm straddling the north west tip of the beautiful Isle of Shapinsay which is part of the Orkney Islands found just off of the north coast of Scotland. The farm buildings are well built and comprise of a cow shed, feed passage, two buildings providing loose pen accommodation, feed store, fully lined workshop and tool store, two barns and a building adapted to provide stabling. These buildings are of concrete/stone construction with slates or sheeted roofs. Several interconnect, all have electric lighting, most of which has been recently replaced and all stock housing has a water supply. Outside there is a 20m X 20m all weather horse arena, midden with effluent tank constructed in 2002, bale store, good area of hard standing and plenty of space for the parking of and turning of vehicles. The fencing and field gates are in good order and most of the fields are provided with water troughs.
There are 6 ferries daily between Shapinsay and mainland Orkney. There is a primary school, community centre, general store and post office, two restaurants, doctor's surgery, fitness suite and about 300 folk on the island. |
